Pattaya Walking Street closes to vehicle traffic nightly, police and volunteers return to ensure safety

Pattaya –

The Pattaya Traffic Police were patrolling on the Pattaya Walking Street last night (April 28th) to ensure tourists’ safety after the Walking Street shut for the first time in almost two years to vehicle traffic at night, leaving the street pedestrian only.

First, as a reference:

Thai government cancels Test and Go and eases legal drinking hours, effective May 1st.

Walking Street lives up to its name once again, shutting to vehicle traffic nightly from 7:00 P.M. TO 6:00 A.M. starting from April 28th, 2022.

Now, for our update:

The street had been allowing vehicles at all hours since 2020 during Covid19 due to many venues still being closed and restrictions on tourists and entertainment venues.

Last night, a team from the Pattaya Trafiic Police led by Lt. Col Arus Sapanon went to the Pattaya Walking Street in South Pattaya.

Lt. Col Arus told The Pattaya News, “There will be more tourists visiting the Pattaya Walking Street, especially from May as entry restrictions for foreign tourists ease, with Test and Go going away. We have to make sure that police, emergency responders, or firefighters can easily and quickly enter the area if anything happens by shutting to vehicle traffic at night.”

“More than 90 percent of business operators have cooperated with the measurements. However, some still don’t know the new rules and are parking vehicles in the area. Meanwhile, taxi motorbike drivers have moved their taxi stalls to outside the area.” Lt. Col Arus continued.

“We have planned to resolve traffic problems in other areas too that people have complained about.” Lt. Col. Arus added

“We have placed no parking signs from 6:00 P.M, to 1:00 A.M. in Soi Buakhao, Pattaya in front of the Tree Town entertainment area.” Lt. Col Arus concluded.

Legally, TPN notes, nightclubs and bars are actually still closed due to national Covid-19 rules and only allowed to be converted restaurants. However, this has been easing as well and the current legal closing time of 11:00 P.M. extends to midnight as of May first.

However, May first is still a few days away as police reminded businesses last night, enforcing a hard close of the alcohol serving venues in the Walking Street and Tree town areas.
