Bangkok –

Seksakol “Rambo Isan” Atthawong, a close assistant to the Prime Minister, had announced his resignation from his position as an assistant to the Prime Minister’s Office Minister yesterday, April 18th, following a leaked voice recording that appeared to indicate he was allegedly providing lottery quotas in exchange for a political campaign loan.

The resignation, which was effective today, April 19th, was meant to prove his innocence to the judicial process as the recording could case damage and affect Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha and those who were working for the Prime Minister, Rambo stated.

He said: “Throughout my 30 years in politics I’ve never used my position for corruption and misconduct against the nation and the people and never had any hidden benefits. I didn’t want good people like the Prime Minister to have his history tainted because of me.”

The audio clip appeared to be a conversation between Rambo and Jureeporn Sinthuprai from the Palang Pracharath party, telling Jureeporn that he borrowed 15 million baht from a man for an election campaign and the lender was allegedly involved in lottery quotas.

It was said that the election campaign mentioned in the clip was referred to the general election in Nakhon Ratchasima in 2019. Shortly after the leak, Rambo admitted that it was him and Jureeporn in the clip but claimed that they were just joking.
