6-year-old girl drowns in Chonburi pond this morning, father reportedly had fallen asleep nearby

Ban Bueng, Chonburi –

A 6-year-old girl tragically drowned in a Chonburi area pond today after her father reportedly fell asleep nearby.

Today, April 6th, officers from the Ban Bueng Police Station received a report of a drowning girl in the Nong Samsak sub-district, Ban Bueng district, Chonburi. The girl reportedly drowned in a pond in her residential area. Upon arriving, the girl was already rescued out of a 2-meter-deep pond by nearby villagers. The rescuers, then, provided CPR to the girl while she was unconscious, but unfortunately failed to revive her.Wanphen Kaewpuban, a 48-year-old grandmother of the girl, told TPN that the kid’s name was Chayapha (last name withheld) and she was only 6 years old. She was playing alone with her dad prior to the tragedy, and her dad accidentally fell asleep due to fatigue from working a late night shift. When he awoke, he was very anxious and called for his daughter. At the pond, he was shocked to find that his daughter’s red sandals were floating on the surface, and instantly dived in to save her, but the girl had already lost consciousness from suffocation, Wanphen said.

The police are now inspecting whether anyone witnessed the drowning or not to clarify the cause of death.

Ban Bueng police were reportedly speaking with the father at further length but as of press time no charges had been filed and police declined to answer a question from TPN media if charges were being considered at this time.
