49-year-old driver breaking through police driving checkpoint in Sattahip kills 3 people, injures one

Three people have been pronounced dead while one person has sustained severe injuries after a sedan broke through a police checkpoint in Sattahip last night (April 5th).

The Sattahip Police were notified of the accident at 9:10 P.M. on Number 3126 Road in Sattahip. Emergency responders and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. So, 19, a Myanmar national.

Two people have been pronounced dead at a hospital upon arrival who were Mr. Preecha Saeue, 58, and Mr. Rin, a Myanmar National.

Mr. Suracjai Imnoi, 30 sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital.

Nearby, emergency responders found the damaged sedan. Police arrested the driver Mr. Rittirong Meechocksom, 49. He had broken his ribs and was extremely uncooperative. He refused to answer any questions from reporters at the scene.

Captain Sanya Chaisot of the Sattahip Police told TPN media, “The sedan driver, Rittirong, refused to stop at the police checkpoint before breaking though the checkpoint. Rittirong was driving at high speed and went through the checkpoint into a construction area nearby. All deaths and the injured man were workers who were working at the underground cable construction site behind the checkpoint.”

“At this stage, Rittirong is facing multiple charges of reckless driving causing multiple deaths.” Captain Sanya concluded.

As of press time, Rittirong remained in police custody and was still being described as uncooperative by authorities.
