Bangkok –

The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand urged the Thai government to accelerate the announcement of Covid-19 as an endemic disease from early July to May in order to rebuild public confidence.

Chairman Sanan Angubolkul revealed today, April 4th, that the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand had set an operating policy to revitalize the country’s economy continuing from its 99-day urgent policy that was successfully implemented last year.

However, the current economic situation in Thailand still faced many problems, such as the Covid-19 issue which was still spreading significantly, and the government’s preventive measures to restrain the economy from fully moving forward.

Sanan said that the government needed to speed up the booster vaccination nationwide to more than 70 percent of the total population and declare Covid-19 as an endemic disease as soon as possible. If possible, it should be announced after this Songkran and relax some preventive measures that obstructed the economic growth.

The Chairman stated to the media: “The private sector thought that the ‘endemic’ should be declared in May, and didn’t have to wait until July because we mostly depended on tourism, trade, and investment with foreigners. The earlier the declaration, the faster the public confidence restoration.”

“The government’s mobilization of vaccinations should be implemented along with the cancellation of the “Test&Go” and “Thailand Pass” scheme and the implementation of remedies to help reduce the people’s burden, such as the extension of the ‘Half-Half’ project or ‘We Travel Together’ scheme, etc,” Sanan concluded.

The Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand said their proposal would be sent to the center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, or CCSA, for review.
