Pattaya, Chonburi–

Nineteen alleged gamblers have been arrested in Bang Saen area over reportedly being involved in a Pattaya Poker Club.

The news was revealed to the media yesterday (April 3rd). The Region 2 Police reported that they received a tip-off that a page ‘Pattaya Poker Club’ was inviting gamblers to join in a ‘Live Tournament’. They also provided a place for gamblers to stay for free if they were coming from other provinces. Anyone who wanted to join, however, first had to transfer 8,800 baht each to exchange for tokens on the gambling day.

Police continued their investigation and arrested Mr. Passakorn Theppetch, 37, identified as the event organizer, and eighteen others (18 men, 1 woman) at a house on Khao Sammook Road in Saen Suk, Mueang Chonburi on Saturday (April 2nd). They were taken to the Saen Suk Police Station.

Seized from them were 3,039,000 baht worth of tokens and poker cards.

Passakorn reportedly admitted to police that he managed the online gambling system while the other gamblers admitted they joined in gambling. TPN notes that Thailand has some of the strictest anti-gambling laws in the world.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, April 2nd, Pattaya Police raided an illegal gambling party  in Bang Lamung, Chonburi. Ten alleged gamblers were arrested.
