A mini van passenger died while the driver sustained severe injuries after the minivan driver crashed into a parked truck in the Phan Thong district.
The Highway Police was notified of the accident this morning at dawn, April 3rd, 2022, on the Khao Din Motorway in the Baan Gao sub-district.
Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the heavily damaged white minivan had crashed into the back of the truck.
The minivan driver, Mr. Jirasak Boonsong, 25, had sustained severe injuries. His passenger, Mr. Rachen Kutjam, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, Mr. Panuwat Kaewroongrueng, 35, told TPN media, “I was sleepy before I stopped the truck on the side of the road to take a nap. About 20 minutes later, I heard a major bang at the back of my vehicle and called authorities.”
Panuwat was not injured. It was not immediately known if his vehicle had legally parked on the side of the road.
At this stage police believe the minivan driver, Jirasak, might have fallen asleep at the wheel. However, highway police are continuing their investigation to find the exact cause of the accident.
