National –

The Cabinet Committee today, March 29th, has approved free highway fees on three major highways, and one minor highway, during the Songkran holiday, from April 12th to the 18th.

The three motorways/expressways include Bangkok-Ban Chang Motorway No. 7 (Bangkok – Chonburi – Pattaya – Map Ta Phut), Motorway No. 9 (Bang Phli – Bang Pa-in), Burapha Withi Expressway, and Kanchanaphisek Expressway.

The no-fee collection will start from 00.01 AM. on April 12th to 00.00 AM. on April 18th in order to solve traffic problems and facilitate people traveling and returning home using the highways during the long holiday.

The government estimated that they would lose about 243 million baht income for granting free highway usages during the period but would earn about 351 million baht as indirect income from encouraging tourism from doing so.
