Bangkok –

The Royal Thai Police today, March 29th, has ordered all police departments nationwide to study and review the new list of category 5 narcotics drugs in order to perform their duties with accuracy during the transition of the cannabis-related laws and orders.

Police General Roy Ingkapairoj, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, signed the order for the relevant departments after the Royal Gazette had issued the Public Health Ministry’s new list of narcotics drugs which excluded parts of cannabis plants out of category 5.

The order included the meeting arrangements to review the draft law of cannabis use for scientific and medical purposes and whether there were any issues that will affect the official performance and suggest solutions before proposing laws for further consideration and draft corrections.

The Royal Thai Police also urged high-ranking police officers, supervisors, and the head of police stations nationwide to provide knowledge and assistance about the laws, regulations, and orders related to drugs as well as determine proper practice guidelines for police officers.

Then, they were required to make public relations to build awareness and understanding of laws, regulations, and orders related to drugs for local residents in the area to avoid ambiguity and confusion.

Deputy Commissioner Roy also insisted all commanders to discretionarily enforce the law in political science and jurisprudence terms and to thoroughly understand the guidelines for the implementation before the draft law came into effect from June 9th onwards.
