Business representatives discuss the upcoming “Pattaya Squid Fair” event!

Pattaya-

Yesterday, the 15th of March 2022, at the Pattaya City Hall, Mr. Sonthaya Khunpluem, the Pattaya mayor, presided over a meeting to arrange the “Pattaya Squid Fair” (the biggest squid festival in the east according to local media) which will last from the 29th of April 2022 to the 1st of May 2022 at Terminal 21 shopping mall.

The meeting was also attended by many other relevant authorities including Mr. Boonanan Pattanasin, the President of the Tourism Business Association, who partook in planning the event and asking for utility assistance from those involved.

The meeting’s purpose is to lay out a basic plan for the squid fair in April, including Covid-19 precautions and rules.

Pattaya City has, notes TPN media, begun to cautiously plan events to drive domestic tourism once again as Thailand eases towards treating Covid-19 as endemic and allowing life to resume “normally.”

Pattaya is highly dependant on tourism, with it accounting for about 80% of the local GDP officially, and likely more unofficially. Events is a critical driver of the tourism industry but have mostly been suspended since New Year’s due to Covid-19 concerns, with a few exceptions like a recent temple fair and water sports festival.

TPN will release more details about the squid fair as it swims…er, comes closer to Pattaya. With local resident’s love for seafood, it is sure to be a hit.
