Election date for Bangkok Governor and Pattaya Mayor scheduled on May 22nd

Bangkok –

The Election Commission of Thailand today, March 14th, has announced the election day for Bangkok Governor and Pattaya Mayor on May 22nd, 2022.

They had also considered a draft election management plan along with the announcement of the election of local administrators of Bangkok and Pattaya City.

The draft generally mentioned that the Commission had approved of the elections and they would be officially held on Sunday, May 22nd. Candidates for elections were opened for application from March 31st to April 4 in accordance with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s and Pattaya Administration’s election plan.

TPN notes that per Thai law, there will be an alcohol sales ban (including at grocery stores and convenience stores) from the night before the election (the 21st) until polls close on the day of the election. The exact hours will be announced closer to the election but is likely to be 5-6 P.M. on May 21st until 5-6 P.M. May 22nd.

Visakha Bucha Day, a religious holiday that is alcohol-free, falls on the 15th this year (although the government holiday will be Monday, the 16th) so this week will bring multiple alcohol closure days and is something for everyone to be aware of, even if you can’t vote. For election days, only those areas voting (Pattaya and Bangkok) will be dry.
