Nearby, rescue workers found a damaged motorbike. The driver, Mr. Chatphon Panthong, 27, admitted to speeding and told Dragon Rescue services, “I was driving at about 100 kilometers per hour when the pedestrian crossed the road. I was unable to avoid hitting her. I am very sorry about this accident.”

Chatphon suffered only minor injuries and was wearing a helmet.

A witness, Mr. Chamnan Yospanya, 34, told Nongprue Police, “The pedestrian‘s house was nearby. She had crossed the road to buy some food from a vendor. The motorbike driven by Chatphon was driving at high speed when he collided with her.”

Nongprue Police spoke at length with Chatphon, who is likely to face charges of reckless driving leading to death.
