National –

Thailand has won the United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) award for five consecutive years for improving public services and internal bureaucratic reforms nationwide, a deputy spokesperson announced today, March 4th.

Ratchada Thanadirek of the government’s office revealed that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha had ordered all state agencies to continue to proceed with the country’s reforms in line with the government’s national strategies to improve people’s quality of life.

She also added that over the past five years, the government had followed its policies that had developed changes in many dimensions and had improved public satisfaction, leading Thailand to receive the UNPSA award since 2017.

According to the official survey, the service development in government centers had improved public satisfaction every year and had reached as high as 84.81 percent in 2021 due to several updates such as the introduction of e-service, the reduction of procedures and document approval period, the reduction and/or cancellation of service fees, etc.

Thailand’s ranking in the World Competitiveness Ranking of the IMD Business School, and the assessment of the capacity and readiness of an economy for economic transformation in government and society, was at the 20th among 64 countries in 2021, ranking up three ranks from 2020. The country was also ranked at the 21st in 2020 for Ease in Doing Business.

Ratchada also revealed that Thailand was ranked 57th out of 193 countries in the United Nations’ E-Government Development Index for online service facilities.

“All of these were results of the government’s commitment to improve people’s better quality of life in line with its policies…The government insisted that it would continue to make reforms in the country in every aspect for the better,” the deputy spokesperson added.
