Painter seriously injured after power transformer explodes in Pattaya

Pattaya –

A man who was painting an advertisement board fell and sustained severe injuries after paint thinner reportedly dropped onto a transformer, causing the device to explode, according to Sawang Boriboon Foundation rescue services.

Emergency responders were notified of the incident after midnight today (February 26th) in front of the Royal Garden Plaza department store on Pattaya Beach Road.

They arrived at the scene to find Mr. Booncherd Klongkerd, 34, stuck at a base advertisement board which was about five meters from the ground. He had sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Witnesses said the man was painting an advertisement board which is above the transformer on a high voltage pole. Thinner which was mixed with paint accidentally dropped onto the transformer nearby before it exploded. Mr. Booncherd was thrown off the high voltage pole but landed on a lower sign base. According to rescue workers had he fallen all the way to the ground he would have certainly passed away.

It was unclear why Booncherd was painting in the middle of the night, noted rescue workers.
