Pattaya City officials investigate alleged public parking fee scams at Bali Hai Pier

Pattaya, Thailand-

Pattaya City officials visited Bali Hai Pier yesterday, February 22nd, to follow up on reports from local residents and domestic tourists of unscrupulous individuals allegedly charging for parking around the pier.

The group of officials inspecting the pier were led by Mr. Pattana Boonsawad, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City, along with his staff and assistants.

According to Mr. Pattana, the public parking areas around the pier and heading towards the lighthouse were free of charge and meant to be a convenience for visitors to the pier.

However, Pattana stated that multiple complaints had come to City Hall and the complaint hotline at 1337 alleging that groups of men were forcing visitors trying to park around the pier to pay 300 baht for each vehicle. If someone refused to pay they were also allegedly being threatening.

Pattana stated that municipality officers stationed at the pier would be instructed to watch for and stop any individuals or groups trying to charge illegally for parking in public areas and reminded the public that they could immediately call 1337 24-hours a day to request assistance from the city and complain if someone attempted to charge them for a parking spot.

TPN media notes that this is not the first time complaints about people attempting to charge others for public parking had taken place, with the same issue on Beach Road last year.
