Chonburi –

A 33-year-old man completely destroyed his own house after he was unable to get money from an ATM machine with a state welfare card in the Phan Thong district.

The Phan Thong Police was notified of the incident at a house in the Nong Tamlueng sub-district over this weekend. They arrived at the house where the house owner had locked himself inside. Police took more than one hour to talk with the house owner, Mr. Thepphon Yindeesuk, 33, before he agreed to surrender to authorities. Furniture and items inside the house were damaged and destroyed.

Local residents nearby told TPN media that Mr. Thepphon was unable to get money from an ATM machine with his state welfare card. After being denied the opportunity to withdraw cash, reportedly only around a thousand baht, Thepphon responded by going home and causing an estimated tens of thousands of damages, throwing items out of windows, screaming and yelling, and scaring nearby residents. The noise caused neighbors to call the police who then responded to the scene.

Mr. Thepphon’s mother, who arrived at the scene after being called by law enforcement, told TPN media that this is not the first time he has destroyed his own home, although this incident was particularly bad. According to his mother, Mr. Thepphon has an anger management problem and has declined counseling and support previously. After declining help, his mother moved out of the family home to live with other relatives nearby, leaving Mr. Thepphon to reside alone.

Mr. Thepphon was taken to a nearby psychiatric hospital and may still potentially face legal charges for causing a public disturbance, said Phan Thong police.
