Mobile phone snatcher arrested in Sattahip after stealing a phone from a food vendor

Sattahip –

A suspect who snatched a mobile phone from a food vendor was quickly arrested in the Sattahip district last night (February 4th).

Patrol police were notified of the incident at 9:00 P.M. in front of a convenience store on Sukhumvit Road in the Sattahip sub-district.

Police chased after the suspect and informed nearby police backup to block the suspect’s escape. They quickly arrested the suspect in front of a market not far from the scene. The suspect was identified by police as Mr. Pakawat Dannarat, 21, from Sattahip. Seized from him was a Vivo mobile phone identified as being owned by the victim, a grilled pork vendor.

Pakawat told police, “My mother is sick. I needed some money to help her and felt the only way to do so was theft.”

However, local residents nearby who stated they knew the suspect said Pakawat uses a new iPhone mobile phone daily and buys many expensive foods. Pakawat’s relatives reportedly told Sattahip police that the suspect was in debt with a tattoo shop after a recent expensive body tattoo and that the tattoo artist had been hounding Pakawat for the money owed.

Ms. Supin Pengpit, 64, the grilled pork vendor who had her phone stolen, told Sattahip police, “The suspect acted like he was buying grilled pork. He told me he forgot to bring his mobile phone and said he wanted to call his mother to tell her that he was going to buy grilled pork for her and ask her how many she wanted.”

“He told the phone number to me before snatching my mobile phone and speeding away on a motorbike. I shouted for help. Good Samaritans nearby chased after him and called police.” Supin stated.

Pakawat faces charges of theft as well as fleeing law enforcement.
