RECAP: Thailand reports 8,640 daily Covid-19 infections with 13 additional deaths today

Thailand discovered a total of 8,640 daily Covid-19 infections with 13 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, January 21st.

The fatalities were 10 men and 3 women with the highest number reported in Bangkok with 4. 12 of them were Thai nationals and one was an Australian national. The age range was between 24 and 100 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (6), diabetes (2), hyperlipidemia (3), obesity (1), and kidney disease (1).

Of the new cases, 8,369 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 56 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 20 were from prisons, and the remaining 195 were imported cases.

A number of 82,720 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 540 patients are in critical condition including 118 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.65 percent of cases that are critical while 21.8 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 1,630, followed by Samut Prakan with 700, Chonburi with 482, Nonthaburi with 469, Phuket with 377, Pathum Thani with 294.

A total number of 523,090 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 46,078 people had received their first shots, 110,971 people had received their second shots, and 366,041 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 72.1% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 66.6% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 15.8% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 8,641 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,361,702 cases with 2,256,982 recoveries and a total of 22,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
