RECAP: Thailand reports 8,129 daily Covid-19 infections with 19 additional deaths today

Thailand discovered a total of 8,129 daily Covid-19 infections with 19 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, January 20th.

The fatalities were 10 men and 9 women with the highest number reported in Bangkok with 4. 18 of them were Thai nationals and one was a Belgium national. The age range was between 16 and 96 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (10), diabetes (9), hyperlipidemia (2), obesity (3), and kidney disease (5). Three of the fatalities were bedridden patients.

Of the new cases, 7,776 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 85 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 54 were from prisons, and the remaining 214 were imported cases.

A number of 82,734 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 533 patients are in critical condition including 118 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.66 percent of cases that are critical while 22.1 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 1,168, followed by Samut Prakan with 688, Chonburi with 445, Phuket with 391, Khon Kaen with 274, Nonthaburi with 272.

A total number of 489,455 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 43,455 people had received their first shots, 101,021 people had received their second shots, and 344,979 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 72.1% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 66.4% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 15.3% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 6,978 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,353,062 cases with 2,248,341 recoveries and a total of 21,987 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
