RECAP: Thailand reports 6,929 daily Covid-19 infections with 13 additional deaths today

Thailand discovered a total of 6,929 daily Covid-19 infections with 13 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, January 17th.

The fatalities were 7 men and 6 women. All of them were Thai nationals. The age range was between 69 and 92 years old. Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (2), diabetes (2), hyperlipidemia (4), obesity (1), and kidney disease (3).

Of the new cases, 6,670 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 43 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 7 were from prisons, and the remaining 209 were imported cases.

A number of 82,210 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 533 patients are in critical condition including 108 on ventilators. This is roughly 0.64 percent of cases that are critical while 20.2 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest number of patients were reported in Bangkok with 722, followed by Samut Prakan with 656, Chonburi with 454, Phuket with 389, Nonthaburi with 386, and Khon Kaen with 290.

A total number of 172,437 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 14,305 people had received their first shots, 28,791 people had received their second shots, and 129,341 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 71.9% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 66.1% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 14.1% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 5,255 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 2,331,414 cases with 2,227,266 recoveries and a total of 21,938 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
