Chonburi’s amount of Covid-19 infections now likely to decline, according to the Ministry of Public Health

Chonburi –

The amount of Covid-19 infections in Chonburi province, which includes popular tourism city Pattaya, has already reached its peak and is now declining, according to Ministry of Public Health reports today, January 17th.

Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, director of the Emergency Health Hazard and Disease Control Division, announced that today’s highest number of infections were in Bangkok at 722, followed by Samut Prakan at 656, Chonburi at 454, and Phuket at 389, and Nonthaburi at 386. Chonburi is now ranked the third-highest in infections after being mostly in the first place since the beginning of this year, 2022.

Many infections nationwide were still found at the same ongoing clusters, such as restaurants, entertainment venues illegally open, factories, markets, social gatherings, religious ceremonies, military camps, and nursing homes, according to his statement.

The director said: “The number of infections has not increased among the tourism pilot provinces after limiting the number of international tourists with Test and Go currently suspended. Bangkok has slightly increased but Chonburi seems to have passed the highest infection point and now declining, same as Phuket and Samut Prakan in which their numbers have been stable for a while.”

“The virus situation in Thailand this year is expected to gradually decline and eventually be considered as an endemic virus. However, experts are closely monitoring the situation and looking at academic information from all around the world to estimate the infection trend. Now, so far, the Omicron variant did not cause severe symptoms or a significant level of fatalities. However, a large number of infections can affect the public health system to some extent. People are highly encouraged to live by the new normal rules, including VUCA measures (Vaccine, Universal Prevention, Covid-Free Setting, and Antigen Test Kits), for their own safety.” Chawetsan concluded.

The Ministry of Public Health also stated that although it was highly likely not every confirmed case of Covid-19 was being reported officially that hospital numbers of serious cases and deaths were not showing signs of increasing, even two weeks after New Year’s and a major rise in cases in Chonburi. In fact, as of today, January 17th, 2022, not a single person in Chonburi out of 7,329 cases currently under observation or medical care was considered serious by the Ministry of Public Health, which they classify as pneumonia or on a ventilator.
