Reader Talkback Results: Do YOU believe in spirits, ghosts, the supernatural, etc?

The following is our exclusive weekly feature in which we ask our readers a news topical question and then give you a week to answer it on our various channels, compiling a diverse range of answers and opinions to present to you, our valued readers. Here are the results from our last question…

Last week, we asked you the following:

Do YOU believe in spirits, ghosts, the supernatural, etc?

The context around the question was the following:

Many Thais believe in the supernatural and ghosts, anyone who has spent any time in the country is aware of this. However, this is not the case for many foreign residents or readers, and often stories that discuss ghosts or spirits are met with laughter or disbelief from ex-pats.  So, we wanted to get your thoughts and opinions. If anyone has any particularly interesting ghost stories to share or explain WHY you believe, please do so as well.

Here is what you, our readers, had to say as our editors selected some of the most diverse responses to highlight different points of view. Obviously, we can’t post everyone’s opinion here so selected a variety of the most diverse opinions. As always, the opinions and statements below are the reader’s own and may not reflect those of TPN media. There have been minor edits for spelling and grammar only:

Ron M-Yes. Glenfiddich. Gordon’s gin. Laphroaig. Captain Morgan. The problem is that they seem to be few of them around now. They are attracted to money so they must be feeling the economic pinch

-=-=-=-=-

Roger M-Yes I have had loud knocks on my Condo door with no one there and with my condo locked was laying on the bed after waking up and felt something push me over onto my stomach, no one there. Had my Ummonthong, a Thai baby ghost, sorry about the spelling, come to me in my dream and showed me my girlfriend’s Thai boyfriend. My loud knocks on my condo door were also heard by my Thai friend, who said I had company and when we saw no one there or in the hallway he said it was my Ummonthong playing pranks.

Tim I-About as much as I believe Covid restrictions and madness will end next month

-=-=-==-=

David G-More scared of covid now than Ghosts

-=-=-=-=–

Robert P-Not until I die and see what happens, but its a good way to control your Thai girl

Victor R-Interesting subject. The short answer is that no I don’t believe in them. Having said that I’ve seen two things that could be described as ghosts and one was witnessed by another person. The scientific side of me says I didn’t see a “ghost” but I know I saw SOMETHING that others would describe as such.

-=-=-=-==-

Daniel B-Absolutely Not (Had a lot of similar answers-editor)

-=-=-=-=-=

David L-Of course I believe,I have sleepless nights worrying about it

-=-=-=-=-=-

Jeff W-My Thai partner does, I do not.

-=-=-==–=

Chris M-About as much as I believe the TAT & covid figures

-==-=-=-=-

John W-Only when visiting bar areas or WS (Walking Street) nowadays.

The vast majority of foreign readers said no, however, a similar recent poll amongst Thai readers showed the opposite opinion, we note, which shows a difference in culture and overall beliefs. The cover photo, by the way, is a local graveyard showing movies for ghosts here in Chonburi. Yes, really-Editor.
