Thai PM visits southern Thailand this morning, Chana protesters call off overnight gathering

Southern Thailand –

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha and the National Security Council Committee visited the southern provinces this morning, December 15th, to follow up on national security performances on the borders and the Covid-19 situation.

The team arrived at Wing Division 56 in the Khlong Hoi Khong district of Songkhla around 7:00 AM. before traveling to Yala for a meeting of Covid-19 situation updates with local authorities at the Government Center Building.

There, they will also visit the progress of the development of the southern border provinces in the future as areas of energy crops, livestock, and fruits. Then, they are scheduled to observe the Crab Hatchery Learning Center project in Pattani.

Local media also reported that representatives of the ‘Chana Rakthin’ network also requested to directly meet the Prime Minister and prepared to submit a letter opposing the industrial park project in the Chana district of Songkhla.

Meanwhile, members of the network who had been camping outside the Government House in Bangkok have called off the overnight protest last night and already returned to their hometown around 7:00 AM. this morning after the cabinet committee has agreed to delay the industrial estate project until the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is officially conducted, as proposed by the protesters.

The delay is effective immediately until further notice.
