Thailand celebrates Father’s Day nationwide today, Bangkok organizing lights festival all night

Today, December 5th is Father’s Day and the birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), or so-called “The Father of the Nation”. The day is also observed as a national holiday where Thai people would show their gratitude to their fathers for the contribution and dedication they make to their children’s lives.

Traditionally, a flower called canna lilies or small gifts are given to their father by their children to celebrate and show respect to all fathers. Thai people are encouraged to wear yellow clothes, which represents the late King’s symbolized color, as a mark of respect.

The celebration of father’s day and the birthday of the late King Bhumibol has been organized throughout the Kingdom by public and private sectors. This year, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) organized tree planting activities and decorated the city with special lights and more than 200,000 yellow flowers for the public to participate and celebrate the day with their families.

The public event will be held from December 1st to the 9th from 6:00 PM. – 12:00 AM. But today, the lights will be decorated throughout the night in the area of the Ratchadamnoen and Dusit district.
