Unknown man reportedly fires gunshot in public and accidentally injures security guard on Pattaya Beach Road near Tipp Plaza

Pattaya –

An unknown man reportedly fired a gunshot in public last night (November 11th) on Pattaya Beach Road. A security guard nearby accidentally suffered injuries to his left hand from the incident.

The Pattaya City Police were notified of the incident at 9:00 P.M. opposite Tipp Plaza.

Police and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find spots of blood on the ground and several onlookers standing around looking anxious. The injured security guard, Mr. Thanom Sanenarong, 57, had already been taken to a nearby hospital before reporters from TPN media arrived.

Witnesses on Pattaya Beach, whose names were not given to the press, reportedly told Pattaya police an unidentified man, possibly a foreign national of Asian descent, was walking on the side of the road. He was holding a gun and recording a video, possibly a live stream for a social media service. The witnesses originally thought it was a fake gun.

The man began pacing back and forth in front of the Tipp plaza area and then, according to the witnesses, raised his firearm and fired a single shot. Mr. Thanom, who was sitting 50 meters away, was accidentally hit by the gunshot in his left hand. Witnesses believe the gunshot was random and not specifically aimed at Mr. Thanom.

The suspect reportedly casually walked away down Pattaya Beach Road following the incident.

Pattaya police led by Acting Chief Colonel Maykawit Praditphon visited Mr. Thanom at a local hospital this morning along with TPN media.

Mr. Thanom told reporters “I believe the suspect may be a foreign national who often does videos in this area. I was very unlucky that the bullet hit me, however, the situation could have been much worse. I hope Pattaya Police find the suspect as soon as possible as firing a weapon in a public area like the middle of Pattaya Beach is very dangerous, especially if it was a stunt for a live video.”

Pattaya City Police Acting Chief Colonel Maykawit Praditphon has immediately ordered an investigation to track down the suspect for further legal action as soon as possible. Colonel Maykawit did not comment on if the suspect was potentially a foreign national or a motive and witnesses had conflicting accounts as to the physical description of the man. TPN media will continue to give updates on this story as they are provided by Pattaya police.

Colonel Maykawit did state that security would be increased for the music festival, set to start today and run through tomorrow on Jomtien Beach and Koh Larn.
