Chonburi –
A Laotian woman has sustained serious injuries after falling down from the 3rd floor of an apartment building in Mueang Chonburi while trying to visit her friend in the building next door by climbing across a balcony.
The Mueang Chonburi Police were notified of the incident at a building in Baan Suan yesterday, November 10th, 2021 in the early afternoon. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the injured woman, Ms. Manolagon Petchomphu, 43, a Laotian national, on the awning of the first floor. She had broken both arms and was taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.
The awning had managed to significantly break her fall, according to first responders, and possibly saved her life.
Other residents of the apartment building who witnessed the incident told Mueang Chonburi police that Ms. Manolagon was trying to climb to her friend’s room in the next building by swinging across the balcony.
Her friend’s room, although next to her own, could only be accessed normally by entering through a separate entrance on the ground and climbing a second set of stairs. According to Manolagon’s statements to the emergency staff, she climbed across the balcony nearly every day as she was “too lazy” to go down to the first floor and climb back up to the third floor next door. This day, however, she had lost her balance and fell.
Ms. Manolagon is still in a hospital as of press time and recovering from her injuries. She reportedly told police that she had learned her lesson to not attempt to climb across balconies if she was feeling lazy.
