UPDATE: Chonburi pickup truck driver accused in hit-and-run accident surrenders to police

A pickup truck driver accused of hitting a young nurse and fleeing has finally surrendered himself to the Phan Thong Police. He is facing several legal charges according to law enforcement officers familiar with the investigation.

A 34-year-old nurse has sustained serious injuries after a pickup truck crashed into her sedan in the Phan Thong district on Sunday (October 31st).

Phan Thong Police Deputy Chief Lieutenant Colonel Songphon Wantawong said on Tuesday (November 2nd), that the pickup truck driver, Pramote Yodprom, 40, has surrendered himself to police. He is facing a charge of reckless driving causing personal injury and property damage and a charge for trying to escape by not reporting the accident to law enforcement officers.”

“Pramote claimed that he panicked at the time of the accident. He claims he didn’t mean to escape from the scene. He surrendered after he saw his pickup truck on local media reports and the evening news.” Lt. Colonel Songphon explained.

“Meanwhile, the victim, Mrs. Duangphon, is waiting for surgery for a broken arm and her condition is improving overall. She remains in a local hospital at this time. We will be working on ensuring that Pramote is legally responsible for the accident and her medical charges.” Lt. Colonel Songphon concluded.

Pramote remained in custody as of press time at a Phan Thong detainment center. He was reportedly cooperative, according to Songphon.
