Pattaya –
Pattaya City management has started work on a water drainage construction project in South Pattaya, connecting with the Pattaya Beach area, to solve long-standing flood problems.
The construction site is on South Pattaya Road starting from an intersection near Pattaya Second Road near Mueang Pattaya 8 School and continuing to Pattaya Beach, not far from Walking Street. This particular site is where “baht buses” park to go to Jomtien, which have now been temporarily relocated around the corner directly in front of the school and across from Wat Chai, a local temple.

Pattaya City has hired Eaktawee and K.S. company for the project.
The water drainage project started in earlier years on Beach Road is being extended, according to city officials, with more water pumps being added. The water drainage construction budget is about 79,700,000 baht, according to city officials.
The project is to solve ongoing flood problems near the Wat Chai Mongkon Temple and the nearby area. It is expected that the construction will be completed by July next year-a total of almost nine months. City officials, responding to criticism on social media about the timing of the project with the city “reopening” to vaccinated foreign tourists as of November 1st, stated that the project is part of a long-term program and the next step after drainage was done on Beach Road in earlier years.
City officials have also pledged that the work will, according to them, not cause significant traffic delays or problems. Critics, however, have pointed out that this particular intersection is always busy and as tourists arriving to Pattaya resume will likely increase the level of traffic.
