An additional 1.5 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines arrived in Thailand yesterday, October 27th, the Director-General of the Department of Disease Control reported today.
Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong from the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health revealed to the Associated Press that 1,538,550 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Thailand as scheduled yesterday, in line with the country’s vaccine distribution plan.
So far, Thailand has received 8 million doses of the mRNA vaccine, 2 million in September, and 6 million in October. This number excluded 1.5 million donations from the United States.
The Director-General further stated that about 4.3 million students over 12 years old had registered for the vaccination by the Provincial Communicable Disease Committee. He also ensured that the number of vaccines is sufficient to cover registered students, all of who had parental approval.
Regarding the side effects, Dr, Opas stated that less than 10 cases of myocarditis/pericarditis were reported nationwide, all of which experienced mild symptoms and now almost recovered. Such side effects also happened in cases in Thailand less often than in other countries, he stated.
As of this morning, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha is expected to receive a booster dose with the Pfizer vaccine at the Government House by health personnel from the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute.
The booster is prior to his traveling to attend the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference from October 31st to November 12th at Glasgow, Scotland.
