National –

The Thai Meteorological Department has warned of flash floods and overflows in Southern Thailand and an accumulation of isolated heavy rain in most parts of the country over the next 7 days, from October 18th to the 24th.

In general, high pressure from China covers the upper country and the South China Sea, resulting in isolated thundershowers during the 18th – the 22nd. The monsoon trough lies across the South and the East while the southeasterly winds prevail over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand, causing thundershower to remain in the areas.

During the 23rd – the 24th, another round of high pressure from China will extend to upper Thailand with thundershowers before the easterly wind will prevail in the Gulf and the South, causing constant thundershower and isolated heavy rain in the areas.

In northern Thailand, isolated thundershowers are forecast from October 18th to the 20th and on the 24th while isolated to scattered thundershowers are predicted from the 20th to the 23rd with a minimum temperature of 20°C and a maximum temperature of 34°C.

In northeastern Thailand, isolated to scattered thundershowers are expected from October 18th to the 22nd and isolated thundershowers are forecast during the 23rd – the 24th with a minimum temperature of 19°C and a maximum temperature of 32°C.

In the central part including Bangkok and its vicinity, isolated thundershowers are also expected from the 19th to the 20th and on the 24th while isolated to scattered thundershowers are likely to occur from the 21st to the 23rd with a minimum temperature of 20°C and a maximum temperature of 34°C.

In eastern Thailand including Chonburi and Pattaya, isolated to scattered thundershowers are expected during October 18th – the 20th while scattered thundershowers are forecast afterward until the 24th. Waves are forecast to be about 1 meter and 1-2 meters in thundershowers.

In southern provinces, scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain are expected throughout the period. Waves are forecast to be about 1 meter and 1 – 2 meters in thundershowers.

The Department also warned people in the risky areas in the South to beware of heavy rain and its accumulation that may cause flash floods and overflows. People in the upper country should take care of their health due to the variable weather.
