RECAP: Thailand finds 10,863 daily Covid-19 infections with 68 additional deaths today

Thailand discovered a total of 10,863 daily Covid-19 infections with 68 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, October 17th.

The fatalities were 39 men and 29 women with the most numbers recorded in Bangkok with 12. 67 of them were Thai nationals and one was a Cambodian national. The age range was between 8 and 98 years old.

Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (38), diabetes (29), hyperlipidemia (23), obesity (13), and kidney disease (11). Two of the fatalities were bedridden patients.

Of the new cases, 10,181 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 611 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 64 were from prisons, and the remaining 7 were imported cases.

A number of 107,790 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 2,820 patients are in critical condition including 658 on ventilators. This is roughly 2.61 percent of cases that are critical while 23.3 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.

Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 1,065, followed by Yala with 727, Songkhla with 650, Pattani with 647, Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 519, and Narathiwas with 468. Meanwhile, Chonburi reported 389 new confirmed cases today.

A total number of 1,063,719 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 491,693 people had received their first shots, 537,658 people had received their second shots, and 34,368 people had received their third shots. This is roughly 52.0% of the total Thai population who have had their first shot of a Covid-19 vaccine, 35.9% who have had a second shot and are fully vaccinated, and 2.7% have had a third booster shot.

As of today, 10,383 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 1,783,701 cases with 1,657,638 recoveries and a total of 18,273 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
