Man trying to stab his wife allegedly kills his father-in-law who was trying to protect his daughter in the Pattaya area

A 46-year-old man who was reportedly trying to stab his wife stabbed his father-in-law to death instead who was trying to protect his daughter in the greater Pattaya area last night (October 3rd).

The Huayyai Police was notified of the incident at 9:00 P.M. at a residential home in Huayyai, Banglamung.

Police, emergency responders, and The Pattaya News team arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. Prachum Wongwat, 79, bleeding heavily on the floor of his home. A severe stab wound was found having been inflicted to his chest.

Mrs. Roongphon Naichim, 50, his daughter, was found crying next to her father’s body. A knife covered in blood was found nearby by first responders.

The suspect, Mr. Ting Mangmee, 46, who is Mrs. Roongphon’s husband, was immediately arrested by Huayyai Police. Police stated to the press that the suspect was heavily intoxicated.

Mrs. Roongphon told police investigators at the scene, “I was arguing with my intoxicated husband who had been drinking alcohol all evening. The verbal argument escalated to a physical one when my husband grabbed a knife and attempted to stab me. My father was trying to protect me and block my husband from reaching me, attempting to defuse the situation. However, my husband stabbed my father instead but claimed that it was an accident afterwards.”

Mr. Ting was taken to the Huayyai Police Station. Police said Mr. Ting is facing initial charges involving the intent to kill of another person. Mr. Ting reportedly admitted to the charge but claimed that it was self-defense and an accident. The nature of the argument that sparked the incident was not revealed by any of the parties involved.

Mr. Ting remained in custody as of this morning and press time. It was not immediately known if he had secured a lawyer.
