Phuket begins third subcutaneous injection of AstraZeneca for fully vaccinated residents today

Phuket –

Phuket residents have started receiving AstraZeneca booster shots by subcutaneous injection today, September 24th.

More than 2,500 local residents who are fully vaccinated with Sinovac vaccines have arrived at Phuket’s vaccination centers in the Muang district this morning to receive the third subcutaneous injection of AstraZeneca.

The subcutaneous administration of a COVID-19 vaccine uses only 0.5 milliliters per person. Instead of the muscle, the subcutaneous injection would inject a vaccine into the upper-outer triceps area.

Dr. Withita Jangiam of Vachira Phuket Hospital told reporters that the subcutaneous administration had received a good response from local residents since the previous press conference to raise awareness and information of the administration.

” As for the side effects, those who receive the subcutaneous injection would experience fewer side effects such as fatigue and a headache than half of those who received the intramuscular injection, according to the research,” she stated.

Those who wish to receive this third (booster) dose will have to register for an appointment via the “Phuket Tong Chana” (Phuket Must Win) website, which will also track the vaccination record of more than 200,000 people. The booster vaccination is expected to be completed by mid-October 2021.
