Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run accident in Ban Bueng, police still hunting for driver

A 61-year old man was killed by a hit-and-run road accident in Ban Bueng over the past weekend.

The Ban Bueng Police were notified of the accident at 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 18th, on the Number 4 344 Road in Nong Paikaew.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find the body of Mr. Manas Wongwai, 61, lying on the side of the road. He had suffered severe injuries and according to first responders had died nearly instantly after being hit by a vehicle.

Mr. Ongarj Sakukaew, 63, told Ban Bueng police, “Mr. Manas was a seller at a market nearby. I had just chatted with him before the accident. We did not find the vehicle that hit him and there were no immediate witnesses that came forward, his body was found a short time after the accident by another pedestrian.”

Ban Bueng police are continuing their investigation to find the hit and run driver and asking anyone that may have witnessed the event to speak with them. They believe Mr. Wongwai was walking alongside the Number 4 road to go home for the evening after work due to a curfew in place due to Covid-19 from 9:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. when he was struck by an unknown driver. According to Mr. Ongarj, Manas walked home from work nightly. Based on the severity of injuries Mr. Wongwai suffered police believe the vehicle was also speeding and did not see him walking on the side of the roadway.
