Thai Ministry of Commerce shows successful collaboration with Thai Startups in ‘DBD Chuan Fin Kin Thai SELECT’

Bangkok, 17 September 2021 – The Ministry of Commerce is delighted with the success of ‘DBD Chuan Fin Kin Thai SELECT’ which has created awareness and increasing sales volumes via the online platform for Thai restaurants that have received the ‘Thai SELECT’ Sign. They operate in high-risk areas affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic Situation, with 70 restaurants in total. Also, the Ministry has thanked Startups allies for their collaboration and support for helping restaurants businesses to continue. This event has been arranged for 45 days in total and has attracted people from all channels with almost 8 million views and 4,000 orders. Consequently, the sales volume has increased 10% during the aforementioned period. The Ministry has planned to extend the event to cover ‘Thai SELECT’ restaurants nationwide to promote and enable consumers to have food with premium quality at low prices.

Mr. Thosapone Dansuputra, Director General, Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, revealed after presiding over the press conference on the success of the ‘DBD Chuan Fin Kin Thai SELECT’ Event (on Friday 17th September 2021, at Khao Restaurant) that Mr. Sinit Lertkrai the Deputy Minister of Commerce has assigned the Department of Business Development with a  pilot program to urgently assist Thai restaurants that have joined the Thai SELECT Campaign (currently 70 shops in Bangkok and nearby areas) as these areas have high risk and have been affected by COVID-10 Pandemic Situation greatly. The event was been kicked-off on 1st August 2021 and ends on 15th September 2021, for 45 days in total. Appreciation is shown to Startups and leading food-delivery platforms of Thailand, namely; Robinhood, a Thai food-delivery platform, and Hungry Hub, a food shop-reservation platform, for collaborating with this event by offering discount promotions to increase market dynamism and consumption through online channels, with assistance from; ‘Salehere’ ‘PunPro’ and ‘Kollective’ websites, as well as various famous food and gourmet influencers, who have attended the event to support and assist entrepreneurs of Thai SELECT restaurants to get through this crisis.”

The Director-General added “The outcomes from the past event demonstrated that consumers have responded well as there have been a great number of orders and the sales volume of many Thai restaurants has grown. Over 4,000 food orders in total were increased and helped boost up 10% of sales volume during the period. The average amount spent on each order is 450-1,600 baht throughout all the 70 restaurants in the Thai SELECT Campaign that participated in the event. These startups have greatly helped bring awareness to the participated restaurants. The total number of views of the video clips of Thai SELECT restaurants through influencers is greater than four hundred thousand and the number of views through the press of various types is 8 million. This awareness will lead to the adoption long term of the food-ordering cycle.  Furthermore, this event has enabled small restaurants chances to develop themselves by applying online marketing technologies.

The Department of Business Development is moving forward by collaborating with partners from both private and public sectors in order to develop measures to give long-term assistance which will also be extended to cover restaurants nationally allowing increased sales volumes improving and continuing their business with consumers’ confidence. Presently, there are 940 Thai restaurants that have received the Thai SELECT sign that is issued by the Department of Business Development, 238 of which are in Bangkok, 154 are in the North, 238 in the Central Region, 115 in the Northeast, 143 in the South, and 52 in the East.”

“ Though restaurants in areas with high risk have recently had improved sales via the relaxing of measures concerning the number of dine-in customers, these restaurants must meet and abide by predetermined conditions.

The Department of Business Development, Minister of Commerce will build public trust and confidence by increasing awareness of Thai SELECT restaurants in order to continuously improve consumption choices. It is anticipated that if the COVID-19 Pandemic Situation is relieved in quarter 3 and quarter 4 of 2021, restaurants will be gradually recovered as people have the confidence to return and use services again,” The Director-general concluded.
