Chonburi-

The Pattaya News wishes a very happy birthday to Mother Jasmine, who turned 56 years old yesterday (September 8th) making her what zoo officials say is the oldest hippo in Thailand.

The Zoo celebrated her birthday with a big fruit and vegetable cake. The birthday mother came up from the pool before starting eating and enjoying her birthday cake. Children and tourists were very happy to see her.

Mr. Attaphon Srihayran, the director of the Zoological Park Organisation, told The Pattaya News, “Mother Jasmine is the first animal from the Zoological Park Organisation that is now in the project ‘We Taking Care, We getting Old Together’”.

“Mother Jasmine has received 100,000 baht donation as her birthday gift which is being used to take care of her,” Attaphon explained.

“Mother Jasmine is very healthy but she has a problem with her eyes. She needs 20,000 baht per month for her special food and treatment. She is arguably the most popular animal in the zoo and we want to continue to take good care of her.” Attaphon added.

The zoo noted vaccinated visitors get 50 percent discount off the entry fee until the end of this month. For more information please contact 038-318444.
