Jomtien Beach road suffers severe damage from storms, repairs underway

Jomtien –

Jomtien Beach Road was severely damaged by storms and flooding yesterday morning (September 8th).

Several days of torrential rain and the potential of flash flooding are forecast to take place according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).

Torrential rain forecast for next several days in Thailand, Chonburi under torrential rain warning

Jomten Second Road from the entrance of Soi Boon Kanjanaram Temple to Chaiyapruek Road, which is about 1.2 kilometers long, was flooded.

Meanwhile, on the Jomtien Beach Road in front of the Grand Jomtien Hotel, one lane next to the beach was dangerously damaged by the floodwaters.

The road had sunk about five meters deep. Floodwaters pulled down several coconut and palm trees as well as a traffic light nearby while water flowed into the sea and washed away the beach.

Lieutenant Colonel Arus Sapanon of the Pattaya City Traffic Police told The Pattaya News, “We have blocked part of the road which has been damaged. Motorists should avoid using this area. Staffers from Pattaya City will fix the damaged area.”

As of late yesterday afternoon repairs had begun to the heavily damaged road and beach, however, more rain is forecast over the next several days.
