The Thai Cabinet today, September 7th, has approved the elections for the Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) nationwide but has further delayed already overdue elections for the Bangkok governor and Pattaya mayor.

The approval was followed by the proposal of Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda to hold an election for members of the local council or local administrators of local government organizations.

The election period is initially set between November 28th and December 12th this year, according to the Cabinet Committee. However, the elections of Bangkok governor and Pattaya mayor may have to wait for future announcements. The latter elections were originally planned to take place around October, but have been further delayed due to “Covid-19” concerns in these areas. Pattaya and Bangkok elections will now take place likely “some time” next year.

The cabinet meeting also approved the Ministry of Interior to prepare the budget for the election expenses as well as outlined the duty of the Office of the Election Commission in issuing regulations and announcing election procedures.
