Local politicians give away 1,000 sets of food to the needy in Pattaya

Pattaya –

Local Chonburi politicians have sponsored food giveaways to a thousand needy people affected by the Covid-19 crisis at the Bali Hai Pier in South Pattaya over the past weekend.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Thailand, tens of thousands of people are out of work with limited financial aid from the government.

The Bali Hai Pier area, which was previously used for tourists going to Koh Larn and later skateboarding and sports, has been converted to a charity and donation area by Pattaya City due to the ease of social distancing and spacing out large amounts of people.

Yesterday (September 5th) a team of Chonburi politicians from the Seree Rruam Thai party led by the party leader Pol. Gen. Sareepisut Tamimiyawate gave away 1,000 sets of meals, dried food, and face masks to the needy in the Pattaya area.

Pol Gen Sareepisut told The Pattaya News, “We know that the economy in tourism cities is one of the main factors to drive the overall economy of Thailand. We are encouraging and helping people during this hard time. We will pass through this together and get people’s jobs and livelihoods back soon. We will fight together and welcome back tourists in the near future but for now, we must help those who most need it.”

TPN media notes that although some tough Covid-19 restrictions have been eased, Pattaya’s famous nightlife and entertainment industry, which employs thousands of people, has been closed since April. Additionally, with essentially no foreign and few domestic tourists, many other businesses, especially the hotel industry, have also been heavily affected. This has led to tens of thousands of people temporarily or even permanently laid off and without work or a source of income.
