Unidentified man and woman die after a suspected drunk driver crashes his truck into a motorbike in the Pattaya area

Banglamung –

Two people have been pronounced deceased at the scene after a suspected drunk driver crashed his truck into a motorbike in Banglamung District yesterday (August 29th).

The Banglamung Police were notified of the accident at 11:00 A.M. on Sukhumvit Road in Baan Thung Grad.

They and The Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find a container truck on the side of the road. The truck driver, Mr. Songkran Roadwong, 50, was at the scene speaking to authorities.

A damaged motorbike was found on the road. Bodies of an unidentified man and a woman aged around 50 were found nearby. No identification documents were found with them and Banglamung police are working on confirming their identity and nationality, although they are initially believed to be Thai.

The suspected intoxicated truck driver, Songkran Roadwong, told Banglamung police that he starts every day by taking a single shot of Lao Khao (Thai white rice liquor, 40% per alcohol) to get going and help him wake up, but said the shot must have affected him more than usual. Banglamung Police planned to test Songkran for his blood alcohol content at the local police station, stating to the press that based on the man’s behavior he seemed to have had far more than one shot of liquor.

Songkran claimed he had been coming from Rayong and was driving the speed limit, with the motorbike coming out in front of him.

Banglamung Police are continuing their investigation for further potential legal action against Songkran and identifying the bodies of the victims.
