Chonburi –

A 31-year-old driver drowned after he lost control of his pickup truck before falling into a canal in the Pan Thong District early this morning (August 28th).

Emergency responders were notified of the accident at 1:30 A.M. in Soi 3 Amata City industrial estate, Ban Gao sub-district. This is during a current mandatory curfew of 9:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. in Chonburi due to Covid-19 measures.

First responders arrived at the scene to find the grey pickup truck lying in a canal near the road. The driver was found nearby who was later identified as Mr. Yuttana Yuansri, 31, from Loei.

Witnesses of the accident had jumped into the canal and helped pull Yuttana from his vehicle before emergency responders arrived.

Yuttana was unconscious and tragically was later pronounced dead. Emergency responders said Yuttana had swallowed a large amount of water from the canal and appeared to have drowned in his own vehicle, despite the best efforts of rescue workers and witnesses to the scene helping to rescue him.

A prime witness, Mr. Maytee Boonthonggo, whose age was not provided, told Pattaya News reporters, “I heard a loud noise before I discovered the pickup truck lying in the canal.”

“The glass on the driver’s side window was broken, which had let in a large amount of water into the vehicle, and I managed to open the door. Locals and I helped pulled him out from the pickup truck but it was already too late.”

At this stage, Phan Thong police believe that Yuttana might have lost control of his pickup truck due to high speed on a wet road. The investigation, however, continues.
