Thai Government shuffles several officials, including Samut Sakhon Governor

Bangkok –

Samut Sakhon governor Veerasak Vijitsaengsri has been transferred to Ang Thong while government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri has stepped down from the position, according to the cabinet committee reports this afternoon, August 24th.

The order followed the governor’s resignation letter being submitted last week as his post-Covid conditions were worsening, causing issues in performing his duty while the Covid-19 situation in the provinces remained high.

Following the cabinet committee’s decision, his resignation has been declined, however, a transfer was approved, and he will be moved to Ang Thong, his hometown, while Uthai Thani governor Narong Rakroi will be replaced at the position in Samut Sakhon and Ang Thong governor Khajonkiat Rakpanichmanee will be relocated in Uthai Thani province. This will allow Veerasak to take over a province with far fewer Covid-19 cases, per his request. Samut Sakhon has consistently been one of the top provinces in terms of Covid-19.

Veerasak himself contracted Covid-19 late last year and spent months with a ventilator and a coma and narrowly survived. Veerasak was equipped with a ventilator for the longest period in the Siriraj hospital’s history after doctors found a severe lung inflammation while suffering from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, government spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri gave his farewell statement to the public on his last day at work as he has been removed from the position after serving the Government House for about a year.

He also congratulated Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, Secretary to the Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister, as a new government spokesperson. It was not immediately clear why the move was made.
