Chonburi-

An intoxicated driver was woken up by rescue workers after he reportedly was involved in a three-vehicle accident during a current mandatory curfew in the Meaung Chonburi district.

Due to Covid-19, a curfew is in place currently in Chonburi and 28 other provinces/places, from 9:00 P.M. to 4:00 A.M. Only those with special permits can go out.

The Mueang Chonburi Police was notified of the accident at Soi Marry in the Baan Suan sub-district last night around midnight (August 23rd).

Emergency services and police arrived at the scene to find three damaged vehicles on the road.

One of the sedan drivers, Mr. Kittipat Chalerm, 27, was found sleeping inside his vehicle with the doors locked. Rescue workers spent over thirty minutes trying to wake up Mr. Kittipat, according to their statements but failed despite heavy banging on the car door and window.

A locksmith was called to the scene to unlock the sedan door before Kittipat was finally woken up, according to Mueang Chonburi Police.

Mr. Kittipat allegedly admitted being intoxicated and told Mueang Chonburi police, “I was heading home from my friend’s house after drinking and I was drunk. That was what I remembered. I had forgotten about the curfew.”

Mueang Chonburi police are continuing their investigation for further legal action. Mr. Kittipat will likely be charged with drunken driving laws. The other vehicles involved reportedly had permission to be out.
