Dutch couple rescued after being trapped near an island located three kilometers offshore while kayaking in Phuket

Phuket –

A couple of Dutch tourists from the Phuket Sandbox project were rescued by Phuket Tourist Police after being trapped three kilometers away from the shore while kayaking in Phuket today, August 22nd.

Patrol police rushed to the Tayan island in the Wichit Subdistrict after being alerted about the tourists who were caught in waves and unable to paddle back to the shore while they were kayaking at around 1:30 PM.

The couple was safely rescued and taken to their hotel. According to the initial investigation, the 22-year-old foreign tourist, Hoppe Martin, was leaving for the beach in front of the My Beach Resort Hotel for kayaking with his girlfriend before the incident occurred.

However, heavy rain and strong waves were encountered as they were rowing in the sea, causing them to be stuck near Thanan Island which was about 3 kilometers away from the shore. They then used their cell phone to call for assistance from the hotel staff who later alerted the officials via hotline 1155 for the urgent rescue.
