The following is an update on several projects that have been or are currently in development around the Pattaya area.
First up, a small “extreme sports” area including a skatepark and basketball courts under the Bali Hai overpass is completely finished and officials plan to place a security booth there as well. More details on this are below.
Secondly, a long-planned major renovation of North Pattaya Beach to South Pattaya Beach has started. This plan includes public parking, exercise areas, playgrounds, space for food vendors, plenty of trees and seating, and much more. More on this below as well.
Finally, a previously planned Pattaya Youth Sports Center is to be renovated to a public park, exercise area, and location for group sports activities/classes.
As for the sports park, a technical and safety team that inspected the sports park beneath the Bali Hai overpass stated this week that it fully meets all standards and is now licensed. This includes a much-anticipated skate park for local youth-and even some perhaps not that youthful that enjoy the sport.

Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume told The Pattaya News, “This area used to be an abandoned place where homeless people slept and was an at-risk area for crimes. Local residents who lived nearby were worried about their safety. So, we have changed this place into a useful location for sports. The place is now completed and ready to open, however, we are waiting until the Covid-19 situation improves to do so as currently all sports fields, even outdoors, are closed by order of the Chonburi Governor to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.”
“A guard booth will be placed at the sports park with full-time security guards patrolling the area, enforcing safety rules, and keeping our community safe.” The Mayor added.
“Also, Pattaya City is renovating the previously planned and now largely defunct Pattaya Youth Sports Center to be a public park and a place for exercise and fitness classes. The planned area is located off of Soi 7 on Thep Prasit Road. It needs significant repairs and work, but we believe that converting it into a large-scale park is the right decision.” The Mayor continued.
“It is expected by the end of the year, this public park will be completed. We will also utilize portions of this park for a lagoon (as seen in the top picture) and an area for fitness and sports classes for the community. We have modeled part of this park off the now completed park located across from the Rivieria in Jomtien. That park is done, however, we are also waiting for the Covid-19 situation to improve before it officially opens.” The Mayor concluded.

Meanwhile, Pattaya City has started the renovation of North Pattaya to South Pattaya Beach at a distance of 2.7 kilometers.
Mr. Kietisak Siwongchai, the Pattaya City Deputy Administrative Chief Officer, told The Pattaya News, “We have hired the Nong Nooch Landscape & Garden Design Co., Ltd. to renovate the beach since August 6th of this year which is expected to be finished in November 2023 (Yes, over two years). The total budget is set at 116,100,000 baht.”
“This long-term project is designed to refresh and recover the beach and beach walkway area and make it welcoming again once tourists return, which we expect to see widescale tourism next year. We have to quickly develop tourism places and prepare to welcome tourists. Facilities near the beach will have to be all renovated. ” Kietisak explained.
This ambitious plan includes underground bathrooms, exercise areas, plenty of seating spots and shade/trees, repaired sidewalks, plenty of shrubbery and plants, a children’s playground, better lighting, more space for parking, room for food cart vendors, handicap spaces and access, and much more. The project was originally planned to start last year but was delayed, according to officials because of Covid-19.
