Two low-cost airlines, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air, have temporarily refrained from paying salaries to their employees after all flights have been suspended due to the lockdown measure in 29 provinces nationwide.
Nok Air CEO Wutthiphum Jurangkool revealed to the press yesterday, August 5th, that the airline has to announce a temporary suspension of all flights and have employees temporarily suspend their duties from August 3rd onwards due to the CCSA’s recent extension of partial lockdown states in maximum strict and control areas to limit unnecessary travel.
The company has also stopped paying salaries on Tuesday in order for employees to enter the government’s financial remedial conditions under Section 33 of the Thai Social Security. Hopefully, Nok Air would return to business and pay employees salaries as usual by September if the Covid-19 situation improved.
A similar announcement has also been made from Thai Lion Air. The airline has ordered all employees to fully stop working without payroll and reduced the company’s expenses after announcing a temporary suspension of flights from July 21st onwards due to the ban of domestic flights in the dark-red zone areas. Its employees then would receive compensation from the government under Section 33 of the Social Security.
