Red Line commuter railway service in Bangkok officially launched today

The State Railway of Thailand’s Red Line railway service has been officially launched today, August 2nd, at an opening ceremony in Bangkok, presided over by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha.

The Red Line runs two routes. The first route includes 10 stations from Bang Sue Grand Station to Rangsit, which is about 26 kilometers long and takes 25 minutes. The stations are Bang Sue Central Station, Chatuchak Station, Wat Samian Nari Station, Bang Khen Station, Thung Song Hong Station, Karn Keha Station, Lak Si Station, Don Mueang Station, Lak 6 Station, and Rangsit Station.

The second route covers three stations from Bang Sue to Taling Chan stations, which is about 15 kilometers and takes about 15 minutes. The stations are Bang Son Station, Bang Bamru Station, and Taling Chan Station.

The railway will be operated free of charge for nearly four months, from August to November, before starting collecting fares with the range from 12 to 42 baht. The service starts daily at 6:00 AM. and ends at 8:00 PM. currently due to Covid-19 measures on both routes.
