Rayong announces record-breaking high of 670 Covid-19 cases, Governor against maximum control restrictions like Bangkok or Chonburi

Rayong –

The Rayong Public Health Office today (July 31st) has announced a record-breaking high of 670 new and confirmed cases of Covid-19.

This makes a total of 7,470 cases of Covid-19 in Rayong since the start of this recent round of infections in early April.

Of those 670 new cases, 607 were found through contact tracing and in hospitals, and 63 were found through active case-finding.

Of those 670 new cases, 631 were found in Rayong while 39 new cases were transferred from other provinces for medical care. The majority, according to the Rayong Governor, comes from factories and markets, as well as related worker housing.

Of those 7,470 total cases, 5,983 are Thais while 1,487 are foreigners/migrant workers.

Additionally, 2,853 people in total have now been released from medical care and fully recovered with a total of 22 recorded deaths since this current wave began. Scroll down for the Governor’s thoughts on the situation.

The Rayong Governor Channa Eiamsang announced to Rayong residents late last night, “The Covid-19 situation in Rayong is getting more serious. The number of new and confirmed cases have increased very quickly due to active case finding in factories and construction workers camps.”

“Many people are worrying and suggesting for more restrictions and some lockdown style measures at markets, malls, restaurants, and places for exercise as well as having a mandatory curfew and travel restrictions, closing beaches, essentially the same measures as Chonburi, Bangkok, and 11 other provinces.”

“We are concerned about this which we are focusing on. If we do these restrictions, will the situation get better, or will people who don’t have stable jobs and have no compensation suffer more pain?” This particular statement, TPN notes, seems to allude to donation and food lines stretching into the thousands, especially in the Pattaya area from people unemployed due to the draconian restrictions.

“For now, we have not decided on any more restrictions or closure yet. However, we need cooperation from everyone to avoid unnecessary traveling across the province. Please refrain from participating in activities in large groups and strictly follow measurements.”
