The Thai Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) this afternoon, July 23rd, has signed a trading agreement with Zuellig Pharma’s division, ZP Therapeutics, to supply the amount of 5 million doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccines in Thailand.
The official procurement contract was also witnessed by the President of the Private Hospital Association, Chalerm Harnpanich, GPO director Vitoon Danwiboon revealed to the press.
The number of 5 million shots will continuously arrive in Thailand from the fourth quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2022, according to the agreement. However, TPN media notes, an exact arrival date is unknown.
Meanwhile, several private hospitals and the Thai Red Cross Society have proceeded with complete payment for their vaccine purchases. The GPO will then pay the amount to Zuellig Pharma Company Limited to ensure that the 5-million reserved mRNA vaccines will be allocated in Thailand.
Dr. Vitoon stated: “The GPO has done the mission as being a government agency to purchase the Moderna vaccine so that people could have more alternatives of Covid-19 vaccines in Thailand.”
“Since the situation of the pandemic of the Covid-19 outbreak occurred in Thailand, the GPO has dedicatedly committed all tasks to procure vaccination, medical supplies, and protection equipment to support Thai public health systems in order to help alleviate and eventually solve the pandemic crisis.”
