All four prison fugitives who had escaped from Phetchabun prison in the early morning hours of Monday, July 19th, had been eventually caught within 24 hours, Thailand’s Department of Corrections reported today, July 20th.

The Department announced the progress regarding the incident of four male inmates escaping from Phetchabun Provincial Prison who went missing at around 3:00 AM. on Monday. The first prisoner, Watcharin Chanboon, was caught in the area of Mueang Phetchabun school at around 6:07 AM.
The second and third inmates, Krisada Kongkhao and Thanadon Tantiwanichcharoen, were found hiding next to a furniture shop, located near the Muang Phetchabun school at 3:15 PM.

The last fugitive, Phatdanai Suesirithamrong, then reportedly surrendered to the police at 7:30 PM. at his mother’s home as he could not withstand the siege, according to his statement. The arrest, therefore, took less than 24 hours.
All of them were taken back to the prison and would be interrogated. Meanwhile, Ayuth Sintoppant, director-general of the Department of Corrections, would inspect the prison and issue measures and policies to prevent the reoccurrence of the incident as well as to regain the public confidence and the efficiency of the officer’s control.
The specific details on how the prisoners escaped the jail were not provided by corrections officials and when the press inquired about this the questions were deflected.
